Country Chat - October 2021 Chatterbox

October 2021. Sad to hear the news of the passing of Bob Moore (30 Nov 1932 – 22 Sep 2021), legendary arranger and upright bass session musician who created the magic on countless popular and country recordings of the 1950s and 60s. It’s his distinctive bass on almost all Patsy Cline’s Decca recordings (I Fall To Pieces, Crazy, She’s Got You etc), most of Elvis’ big hits from the June 1958 sessions onwards (the session of I Need Your Love Tonight, Fool Such as I and I Got Stung) – and on classic recordings of just about every country great of the era – Jim Reeves, Hank Snow, Marty Robbins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Flatt & Scruggs and Roger Miller to name just a few. That’s Bob doing the intro to Miller’s King Of The Road one of the most played songs of the century. And laying the rhythm on Marty Robbin’s El Paso behind Grady Martin’s guitar licks. Performed on an astonishing over 18,000 recordings*, a musician who truly deserves the word ‘Legendary’. BACM send our condolences to Bob’s wife Kittra and family.

For release mid October, we have three new compilations, recordings from an earlier era. Brings our catalogue to 681 CDs …

LOUISE MASSEY & THE WESTERNERS. Vol 2. Recorded 1934-42. BACM 679. A second volume of foot tappers, mix of Mexican, polka, cowboy and swing tunes including great versions of South Of The Border and I’m Thinking Tonight Of My Blue Eyes.

NEW ORLEANS HILLBILLY – Various Artists. BACM 680. Another of our regional collections – this one collecting a batch of rare country recordings from the New Orleans area, mainly early 1950s.

GENE AUTRY – Vol. 9 Guns And Guitars. BACM 681. The BACM team are all big Autry fans and over the years we collected just about everything he recorded including many rare 78rpms. Most already released on our eight earlier volumes but we’ve had a search through the vaults and discovered enough to make a Volume 9; classic Autry through the decades but mainly late 1930s and early 1940s.

Will close here, from all the BACM team, warmest wishes to all our friends and customers.

*Bob is heard on countless of our BACM compilations – perhaps the earliest being our Little Jimmy Dickens CD which has Bob on almost all tracks, the earliest of them recorded 9th February 1950 (THEN I HAD TO TURN AROUND AND GET MARRIED and FOOLISH ME) also featuring Bob’s long time collaborationist Grady Martin on guitar.
