1st January 2019. Another year done and dusted and each year they seem to fly by faster than ever. Once again we’ve achieved our mission – producing 36 new CDs, three each month and nearly always reaching the deadline of having them ready for release around the first day of the month. The exception is this month’s when we’ll be a few days late; I hope our subscribers (our Archive Buddies) will excuse us and will find this month’s releases well worth waiting the extra few days for.
First on the list comes Kenny Roberts a top yodeller in his profession with 28 great songs. In my opinion there are few better yodellers in the world of Country Music. On a couple of tracks he is joined by Elton Britt, who must rank along side Kenny as one of the all time greats as far as yodelling goes. Others heard backing Kenny on some tracks are Tommy Sosebee, The Down Homers and The Pine Toppers.
Our second album is an old favourite from the 1960s, Warner Mack, who will be well remembered by the second generation of Country Music fans. These songs are from his collection of Country Music hits Volume one and two with a few extra added to extend the playing time to 70 minutes. Some fine takes on popular country songs from the 1950s and ‘60s.
Finally, a treat for Western Swing enthusiasts – Pre War Western Swing Volume 2. This includes 33 Western Swing items recorded from the radio before 1942 and we must thank Ken Coffey for all the effort putting this together including the exhaustive research work. The recordings are rare and mostly not previously released and because they are radio recordings the sound quality is not always the best but I think fans of the genre will really enjoy hearing these lost treasures. Nice mix of styles and performers – some top names like Pee Wee Kings’ Golden West Cowboys, Rex Griffin, Texas Jim Lewis, W’ Lee ‘O’Daniel and His Hillbilly Boys and some less known.
So, those our January CDs and by the time you get them Christmas will be just a memory. But we hope that you had a great time with your families and friends.
This will be our 17th year in the production of BACM CDs, bringing the catalogue to 618 CDs! I never thought that we would reach that in my lifetime and I must admit it gives us some satisfaction having brought back so many recordings from country music’s golden years to new audiences. It doesn’t get easier as the years move on but it’s a labour of love, we do enjoy what we are doing and we are buoyed by the appreciative letters and emails we get from so many fans and enthusiasts from around the world.
Don’t forget as well as our main catalogue (the 618 CDs, historic recordings from the early 1920s to early 1960s aimed at core collectors) we also have our Chart Memories series. This is a new series of popular Country and crossover CDs, featuring top chart hits from 1957 to 1962, with the likes of Patsy Cline, Jim Reeves, Marty Robbins, Elvis Presley, The Everly Brothers, Jerry Lee Lewis and so many others who brought a country tinge to the pop charts through those years. For each year, we have compiled the ‘Top 100’ country songs on a set of four CDs – check the website to see the titles. Subscribers (Archive Buddies) can buy them at half price, just £20.00 per set. Single CDs cost just £5.00 each (Buddies) 50% off the regular price.
Closing here as were busy preparing next months releases, sending warmest greetings to all our customers and friends and take care, life is precious!
From all the team here,
That’s the BACM BOYS, DAVE BARNES, BRIAN GOLBEY and BARRY FARNES and all our side kicks who do so much helping with our work.
