Country Chat - April 2022
April 2022 – good to be emerging into spring, hopefully bringing sunshine and better times maybe returning to something like normal after so many difficult months.
But we begin with news of two landmark passings.
Warner Mack (born April 1935) passed away 1st March. He grew up in Nashville and learned to play guitar and write songs at an early age, especially influenced by the likes of Hank Williams and Eddy Arnold and made his recording debut in 1957. His most successful period came later in the mid 1960s. BACM’s CD 618 (Warner Mack Sings Favourite Country Songs) has Mack in fine form on 28 of the top country songs of the era, becoming one of our best selling albums of the past few years.
Another landmark, the sad passing of Willie Nelson’s sister Bobbie (1931–10th March 2022), who became a fixture of Willie’s life and career playing at sessions and concerts for over 50 years.
______________
We are pleased to release three new CDs, bringing the catalogue to 687 albums, all still available.
BACM CD. 685 OTTOWA VALLEY HALL OF FAME-The First 10 Years. Another collection of Canadian Country recordings featuring early inductees into The Ottowa Valley Hall of Fame
BACM CD. 686 COLE WILSON & The Tumbleweeds. From New Zealand, a fine group bringing together two families both of which were influenced by the country music they’d grown up with in the 1930s and producing their own distinctive sound.
BACM CD. 687 OLD TIME TUNES & SONGS Vol 5. Another of our popular compilations of early recordings from the 1920s and 1930s, including familiar artistes as well as some lesser known.
Hope you find something here to interest you and enjoy. Do help us keep the show on the road by buying our CDs – maybe dip into the catalogue, it’s a great way to build up a country music collection!
Will close here, best from all of us at BACM.
