23 July. Anniversary of Tex Morton, influential yodeller/ guitarist (born Robert William Lane in New Zealand; 30 August 1916 – 23 July 1983). After emigrating to Australia in 1936 he began his long and prolific recording career by recording around 100 tracks for Regal Zonophone (1936-43), mainly just Tex accompanying himself on acoustic guitar. Big influence on Buddy Williams and Slim Dusty, he pioneered ‘Down Under Country’. The Archive have so far released one collection, mainly from his early recordings
