September 16th. Remembering Sheb Wooley (April 10, 1921 – September 16, 2003) – actor (“High Noon”, “Rawhide”), songwriter and singer, who had a smash pop hit in 1958 with “The Purple People Eater” but who also had a string of hits in Country (under his own name Sheb Wooley) and in Comedy (as “Ben Colder”). As a historical footnote, his wife’s cousin was Roger Miller to whom Wooley taught his first guitar chords! BACM have released one CD of his recordings, a nice mix of Country and Comedy numbers …
