May 26th. Remembering Jimmie Rodgers (September 8, 1897 – May 26, 1933), first country music superstar, famed for his “Blue Yodels” and a big influence on generations of country, blues and pop artists. His recordings are widely available (notably on the great Bear Family “The Singing Brakeman” 6-CD set) so BACM have not issued any themselves. However he spawned many imitators and his songs have been widely recorded by others, appearing on innumerable BACM CDs and 24 of these lesser known interpretations appear on our “Following In The Footsteps Of Jimmie Rodgers” CD.
