July 6th – Remembering “King of the Cowboys” Roy Rogers (born Leonard Slye November 5, 1911 – July 6, 1998), American singer and cowboy actor, one of the most popular Western stars of his era.  A founder member of the popular Sons Of The Pioneers (c. 1934) whose hits include evergreens “Tumbling Tumbleweeds” and “Cool Water” he made his first Western in 1935, still styled as “Leonard Sly”, adopting the name “Roy Rogers” in 1938. The Archive have so far released three Roy Rogers CDs (also two CDs of Sons Of The Pioneers tracks).
