6th November – birthday of Gene Sullivan best known for his partnership with fiddler Wiley Walker as the “Wiley and Walker” duo, Gene (6 Nov 1914 – 24 Oct 1984) contributing guitar and harmony vocals. Nowadays the duo are best remembered as writers of the classic ‘When My Blue Moon Turns To Gold Again’ recorded by Elvis Presley, Eddy Arnold, Cindy Walker , Emmylou Harris, Merle Haggard and Jim Reeves among others. Gene entered the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1971. Some of their fine recordings are showcased on BACM CD 427 which also includes excerpts from two of their popular radio shows.
