6 November. Remembering Bob Shelton (Robert Attlesey, 4 July 1909 – 6 Nov 1986) of the Shelton Brothers, (Bob, Joe and, joining later, Merle) pioneering country musicians from Texas who recorded prolifically from the mid 1930s through to the early 1960s. Featuring superb harmonies, and eclectic musicianship, they were among the most popular radio and recording acts of their era, and were hugely influential, playing a variety of styles from traditional country/hillbilly styles to jazz tinged ‘Western Swing’. All three were accomplished guitarists, Joe also playing mandolin and Bob, fiddle. BACM have issued three compilations, celebrating their important legacy
