3 June – anniversary of Wally Fowler (John Wallace Fowler, Feb 15, 1917 – June 3, 1994), successful singer/songwriter in both the country and gospel fields. Songwriting credits include Im Sending You Red Roses (1944 hit for Jimmy Wakely), Thats How Much I Love You (country hit for Eddy Arnold and a 1958 Top 10 pop hit for Pat Boone) and I Couldnt Believe It Was True”, recorded by Willie Nelson in 1974. First appeared on the Grand Ole Opry in the early 40s with the John Daniel Quartet before founding his own group Wally Fowler and the Georgia Clodhoppers with Chet Atkins on lead guitar. Later focused on gospel music. BACM have released two compilations of his recordings.
