24 July – remembering American country music performer and songwriter Lawton Williams (July 24, 1922 – July 27, 2007). He is best remembered as a songwriter, scoring big hits with the likes of Fraulein (Bobby Helms), Geisha Girl (Hank Locklin), Paper Face (also Hank Locklin) and Farewell Party (Little Jimmie Dickens, Gene Watson and others). His own recordings, usually in the crossover area between western swing and honkytonk, have been undeservedly neglected, but his sessions often featured fine musicians, for example members of the Light Crust Doughboys. Well worth a listen.
