14 April – birthday of “America’s Sweetheart” Loretta Lynn (b.  April 14, 1932) whose performing career stretched across six decades. Her first recordings (1960) were with the Canadian Zero label before signing with Decca label two years, beginning a long association with the Wilburn Brothers. A gifted songwriter, many of her compositions controversial for her era, she chalked up over 70 hits including classic duets with Conway Twitty and Ernest Tubb. A one off talent, they don’t make stars like Loretta Lynn any more!
