10 December – birthday anniversary of Eddie Miller (Edward Monroe Miller (December 10, 1919 – April 11, 1977)), American Western Swing bandleader and songwriter, composer of over 1,000 songs of which the most celebrated, Please Release Me became a country and pop classic. BACMs CD 219 showcases his earlier career as leader of his fine Western Swing band, Eddie Miller & His Oklahomans; 27 tracks from the late 40s to early 50s. Includes his 1949 cut of Please Release Me, nearly half a decade before it became a country hit (at one point in 1953 there were three cover versions in the country Top 10 including Kitty Wells version) and 16 years before British crooner Engelbert Humperdinck made it a worldwide hit. Most of the tracks feature Eddie on guitar and vocals.
