LOUISIANA STOMP Various Artists BACM. CD 616

This collection showcases some of the lesser known acts performing in and around Shreveport in the 1930s and 1940s before 1948 when the town became the home of the famed Louisiana Hayride. Several Shreveport acts from this pre Hayride era have already been featured on various BACM CDs (for example our Shelton Brothers, Buddy Jones and ‘Governor’ Jimmie Davis collections). Many of the groups on the CD have connections with Davis, for example steel guitarist Charlie Mitchell and his Paradise Entertainers group which evolved into Davis’ backing group in 1936. Several tracks from Mitchell’s later band feature young Moon Mullican on piano and vocals. Some fine music across several genres with a lot of western swing influence. Thanks to Kevin Coffee and his contributors for the research and excellent liner notes.
