May 4th.  Birthday of Al Dexter (May 4, 1905 – January 28, 1984), country singer and songwriter, Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame nominee. The first artist to use the term Honky Tonk in a song (Honky Tonk Blues, 1936), but best known for his song “Pistol Packing Mama”, a massive hit for Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters.  BACM’s CD322 compilation has 26 tracks from the 1930s/40s and includes the sequel to his “Pistol Packing Mama” smash
