May 4th. ¬†Birthday of Al Dexter (May 4, 1905 ‚Äď January 28, 1984), country singer and songwriter, Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame nominee. The first artist to use the term ‘Honky Tonk’ in a song (Honky Tonk Blues, 1936), but best known for his song “Pistol Packing Mama”, a massive hit for Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters. ¬†The Archive’s CD compilation has 26 tracks from the 1930s/40s and includes the sequel to his “Pistol Packing Mama” smash.
