June 17th. Birthday of Red Foley (June 17, 1910 – September 19, 1968), American country singer, musician, and TV personality. A smooth vocalist, perhaps best known for his recordings of “Old Shep” (1941) which he co-wrote, his 1951 hit, “Peace in the Valley” (one of the first million-sales gospel records) and his duets with Kitty Wells. BACM have compiled four CDs of his recordings (plus a fourth with then wife Judy Martin).
