Grady Martin-222

December 3, 2017

December 3rd – remembering Grady Martin (Thomas Grady Martin , Jan 17, 1929 – Dec 3, 2001), inventive and prolific guitar picker. Through his 50 year recording career,  his licks appear on some of the great recordings of the era – backing rock legends Elvis Presley,  Buddy Holly and Roy Orbison as well as of countless country stars, including big hits from the likes of Patsy Cline, Marty Robbins, Willie Nelson and Lefty Frizzell. He also played fiddle, including on one of Hank Williams’ last sessions. From the late ‘50s he was a member of the legendary Nashville A-Team of session musicians alongside fellow guitar-maestro Hank Garland, Bob Moore (bass) and Tommy Jackson (fiddle) on countless historic recordings.  His guitar talents are well showcased on BACM’s CD 222, featuring Grady with his own country-jazz band, Grady Martin and the Slew Foot Five, recorded in the early and mid 1950s.
