17th December. Remembering Rex Allen (December 31, 1920 – December 17, 1999), American singer/guitarist,  songwriter and actor, known as the Arizona Cowboy. He began his recording career (with Mercury) in 1948,and appeared in 19 Western movies between 1952 and 1954,  many featuring songs which he wrote and performed. He had a rich baritone voice with extraordinary range, easily sliding between deep bass and tto or full yodel as well as being well suited for narration.  Respected musicologist Bill Malone rated Allen as having arguably the “Best voice in the annals of country music”.
