August 30th. Birthday of Kitty Wells (Ellen Muriel Deason, August 30, 1919 – July 16, 2012), the first female to top the US country charts (with her 1952 hit recording, “It Wasn’t God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels”) who had a string of hits from the ’50s to the early ’70s, earning her the title Queen of Country Music. BACM have compiled a CD selection, cuts from early in her recording career including Don’t Wait The Last Minute To Pray from her first session in 1949.
