August 23rd. Birthday of “Tex Williams” (Sollie Paul Williams, August 23, 1917 – October 11, 1985), deep-voiced baritone Western Swing singer best known for his 1947 hit “Smoke! Smoke! Smoke! (That Cigarette)”, jointly composed with Merle Travis. So far, BACM (the British Archive of Country Music) have released three CDs from this versatile and prolific recording artist including some rare transcription tracks.
