9 April – anniversary of Johnny Hicks (19 May 1918 to 9 April 1997), U.S. country singer and DJ, Columbia recording artiste . After WWII army service Hicks became a popular and influential DJ/compere with the Lone Star Jamboree in Dallas – later christened the Big D Jamboree which played an important role in the popularity of Texas Rockabilly in the mid 50s. His compositions included Nuevo Laredo,which was recorded by Hank Snow.
