Benny Martin 298

May 8, 2017

May 8th. Birthday of Benny Martin (May 8, 1928 – March 13, 2001), an American bluegrass fiddler, multi-instrumentalist and singer/ songwriter who invented the 8-string fiddle and who had a distinctive, (& quite revolutionary!)  style of playing.  He played with all the greats, Roy Acuff, Bill Monroe, Don Reno, Johnnie and Jack, The Stanley Brothers and Flatt & Scruggs. This compilation  from the Archive  gives a nice mix of vocals and instrumentals, featuring his fine fiddling across a variety of styles.
