Zeke-Clements-507

September 6, 2017

6 Sept – birthday anniversary of the “Dixie Yodeler” Zeke Clements (6 Sept 1911 – 4 June 1994), singer and guitarist whose performing career stretched from the late 1920s through to the 1980s when he was still making occasional appearances on the Opry. For a while played with Otto Gray and the Oklahoma Cowboys (see BACM CD 139) and in the early 1930s joined Texas Ruby who was already playing the Opry with her own band The Bronco – Busters when Clements came along. The joined forces and Zeke took over the band Owens’ Bronco Busters. Some records say that they were the first to introduce and wear Western Apparel on the Opry. They remained a team until she married Curly Fox about 1939. Clements provided the voice of Bashful” in Walt Disney’s “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”, including the memorable yodeling sequence in the “Silly” song! (Thanks to Herb Williams for the additional information.)
