2nd January – remembering Little Jimmy Dickens (James Cecil Dickens, December 19, 1920-2nd January 2015), diminutive country music singer who at 94 was the oldest living member of the Grand Ole Opry – which he joined in 1948. Best known for his humorous novelty songs Dickens could also serve up a great country ballad and recorded with the top session men of the day. Our CD features a selection from his Columbia recordings, 1949-52 , mostly featuring ace musicians Bob Moore (bass) and Grady Martin, Jabbo Arrington and Floyd Robinson on guitars (Moore, Martin and Arrington were founder members with Dickens of the popular The Country Boys act). His music was and is Feelgood Country – you can’t help but smile along!
