Jean Shepard-170

November 21, 2017

21 November – birthday anniversary of Jean Shepard (Ollie Imogene Shepard, (November 21, 1933 – September 25, 2016), honky tonk singer-songwriter, pioneer for women in country music. Discovered by Hank Thompson, she signed to Capitol in 1952, and the following year her Dear John Letter duet with Ferlin Husky sold more than a million. One of those instantly recognizable distinctive voices, equally at home with upbeat shuffles and plaintive ballads, showcased on BACM’s CD 170 which includes her first single “Crying Steel Guitar Waltz” from 1952.
