20th May – birthday of Oklahoma born steel guitarist Leodie Jackson (May 20, 1926 – Sept 20, 1995), who made a name for himself on the L.A. honky tonk/western swing scene in the 1940s; initially as a session man with Happy Perryman’s band in 1945 where he first teamed up with Terry Fell (on guitar). Jackson also recorded under his own name for the Courtney label eg: as “Leodie Jackson and his Western Swingsters”, mostly featuring Terry Fell as vocalist. Continued to do session work into the ’50s including Capitol sessions with Ramblin’ Jimmie Dolan.
