19th November. Remembering prolific singer/songwriter Mel Tillis (Lonnie Melvin Tillis, born August 8, 1932). Several of his compositions were big hits for other top artists – such as Detroit City [hit for Bobby Bare and for Tom Jones], I Aint Never [Webb Pierce],The Snakes Crawl At Night [Charlie Pride] and Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love to Town [Kenny Rogers]. But he also scored several hits himself including reaching number 1 with his own version of ‘I ain’t never’, featured on BACM’s thirty track compilation CD. Tillis died in Florida of respiratory failure in November 1917 after a long illness and was survived by his six children including singer-songwriter Pam Tillis.
