17 January – birthday anniversary of “The Lonely Cowboy”, Tex Fletcher (Geremino Bisceglia, Jan 17, 1910 – Mar14, 1987), American singing cowboy yodeler. Brought up in South Dakota , he grew up listening to cowboy songs around the campfire and learned early to work with horse and cattle, Moved to New York in the early 30s and soon hit the big time on radio as a singing cowboy. This led to movie roles and a Decca record contract (he eventually recorded with numerous labels including his own Dakota label). An all round talent, he was also a prolific songwriter and reputedly had a repertoire of over 4,000 songs all of which he could recall from memory.
